Bollywood ladies are ready to rock the 66th Cannes Film Festival, all in desi outfits. At the coveted international fest, which will take place from May 15-26, actors Vidya Balan, Sonam Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai, Ameesha Patel and Freida Pinto are reportedly planning to don ethnic wear.

While Aishwarya plans to wear an off-white sari heavy on intricate embroidery, by the Bachchan family’s favourite designer duo — Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. Ameesha Patel, who is known more for making fashion faux pas than acing style charts, will hopefully take the opportunity for some fashion redemption. The 37-year-old plans to sport a drape by designer Manish Malhotra.

With celebrating 100 years of Indian Cinema being a strong flavour at the fest, the ladies are sure to shine, say style experts.

“It’s topical, so the desi look will work. Also, Indian attire looks great on Indian woman and compliments their body well. I just hope that the outfits they choose can show more of modern Indian fashion — they should be classy, not costume-y,” says designer Anand Kabra.

Designer Anuradha Ramam, who is known for contemporary ethnic wear, also believes that the platform is perfect to show off Indian glamour.

“It’s a fabulous opportunity to showcase the country’s rich heritage, and style too. It’s a good way to remind global audiences about what we have to offer.”

The surprise package among these divas is Freida Pinto, who is always seen in Western outfits. She will reportedly go Indian for at least one occasion, keeping the ethnic vibe alive.
