* Despite a boom, the design industry remains unorganised and lacks the benefits of an industry body and government recognition. Without industry status, design is not able to grow as substantially as it otherwise would have.

* With inept polytechnics all around, there are many who just learn how to draw and start referring to themselves as designers. They offer services at minimal cost and with there being no design council or standard-measuring body, the flow of clients becomes hard to stem.

* Technological developments sometimes prove to be a bane rather than a boon. With a computer offering to fulfil almost all required functions, designers often don't realise the importance of subjective thinking.

* The talent pool of probable design hires is getting too expensive. At the same time, design-related budgets are still comparatively low. From purely a product design perspective, there are not enough willing engineers to take ideas and designs and turn them into something real.
