Designer ?diyas? for you this Diwali

THERE WAS a time when people celebrated the festival of lights Diwali by lighting earthen Diyas (lamp), to welcome the Goddess Laxmi. But now the times have changed and along with the people there has been a change in the traditional ways of offering prayers to Laxmi and Ganesh. Today people like to decorate their houses with designer ?Diyas?.

THERE WAS a time when people celebrated the festival of lights Diwali by lighting earthen Diyas (lamp), to welcome the Goddess Laxmi. But now the times have changed and along with the people there has been a change in the traditional ways of offering prayers to Laxmi and Ganesh. Today people like to decorate their houses with designer ‘Diyas’.

The tradition of designer Diyas is getting popular day by day among the people of Kanpur. This is the reason why one could find these designer ‘Diyas’ in almost every shop. According to Shikhar Saksena, a shopkeeper, “These days the people demanding these designer Diyas. Old plain earthen Diyas have gone out of the fashion and these designer Diyas ranging between Rs 20-200 each depending on their size.” Even though, the cost of these Diyas is so high even then the people are attracting towards these Diyas.

According to Sneha Singh, a housewife, “These designer Diyas are more presentable and beautiful in comparison to the old plain ones even the designer candles are in the market.”

Richa Gupta, a student said, “The old plain earthen Diyas are out of fashion and the use of designer Diyas help in maintains our class and if we could spent money then why not use designer ones.” “It is not the cost that matters when its Dewali time, everything should look beautiful and after all we have to maintain a class,” said Gauri Tripathi, an employee in a private firm.
