According to information, one and half decade old standing order has been forcing the BMC officials to realise the development fee from the residents of legal colonies like Saket Nagar and Shakti Nagar. However, the development fee is not being taken by the colonies recently handed over to the BMC.

The BMC officials said the development fee is being taken according to the agreement made when the colonies were handed over. The development fee is as high as Rs 55 per square feet in some of the colonies. According to officials, a proposal for the rationalisation of this fee is awaiting the approval of authorities. Besides, it was suggested that the amount collected as development fee should be spent in the same area. It is mandatory to spend the development fee amount in same colony as far as illegal colonies are concerned.
