After more than a month of uncertainty, the BJP-PDP alliance is likely to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir immediately after the Delhi elections.
A highly placed source told HT that the two parties have almost agreed on the important points of the Common Minimum Programme which is likely to be cleared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a few days.
According to sources, the two parties, in the CMP, have focused more on development, keeping contentious issues such as Article 370 and revocation of AFSPA on the backburner.
“The chief ministership was the only issue we were discussing and now, we have agreed to a PDP CM for six years so the government will be in place within a week,” said a BJP source.
Though he did not confirm the development, PDP’s chief spokesman Nayeem Akhtar did say that “the process of government formation is on.”
“There is no structured dialogue but the two parties are trying to create an atmosphere of understanding,” Akhtar said.
The two parties had earlier decided to support each other in the Rajya Sabha election scheduled on February 7.
In the elections held in December, PDP had emerged as the single largest party bagging 28 seats after the voters threw up a hung assembly. The BJP won 25 seats, followed by National Conference (15) and the Congress (12).

During an interview on Sunday, BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav had said that the coalition government would be in place in J&K by February 10.
