AN UNPRECEDENTED rush of devotees was witnessed in the city on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya on Sunday. The devotees took a holy dip at different ghats today.

Devotees from the adjoining districts of Varanasi, including Mirzapur, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Ballia, Bhadohi etc, came to take a holy dip in the Ganga and offer prayers in different temples in the city.
The devotees also donated food grains, clothes and money to the pundits at different ghats.
Hotels, guest houses and inns were packed with devotees. A huge rush was seen at the Assi ghat, Tulsi ghat, Kedar ghat, Dashshashwamedh ghat and Rajendra Prasad ghat since the wee hours. Prominent temples, including the Durga temple, Kashi Vishwanath temple, Ganesh temple, Sankat Mochan temple and Kal Bhairo temple, were also packed with devotees since early morning.
The district administration had made elaborate security arrangements at prominent ghats and its adjoining areas to avoid any untoward incidents. The Jal police were also deployed at the ghats.
