Devyani Khobragade may find herself in more trouble with both her daughters holding US and Indian passports, something the Indian law doesn't allow.
The external affairs ministry sources said they didn't know about Khobragade's daughters holding US passports. Though the diplomat could be asked to explain why she didn't reveal the facts, there was no official action as of yet. Her husband is a US citizen.

Sources familiar with the developments said Rathore had gone to the US with the kids before Khobragade was posted as India's deputy consul general in New York.
Devyani's father Uttam Khobragade defended his granddaughters holding US passports. "When we were taking the kids to the US, we were told as they were natural US citizens they should get US passports", he told HT.

He also claimed the Indian passports of his grandchildren were handed over to the Indian mission. "What is the big deal? Their mother is an Indian diplomat, so they used an Indian passport. The passports were duly kept in the custody of Indian mission in New York once they had received US passports".

"Given the importance both sides attach to their bilateral strategic partnership, the government hopes to see further progress in this matter in a manner consistent with international norms and conventions", the spokesperson said.

That in other words indicated MEA hopes there wouldn't be any judicial follow-up to the case.
