Dewani family dismisses new evidence

The family of Indian-origin British businessman Shrien Dewani, who allegedly organised his wife Anni's killing during their honeymoon in Cape Town, has dismissed claims that South African police has compiled a "compelling dossier" against him, saying it is "all old stuff."

Anni was killed after the taxi the couple were travelling in was car-jacked.

Dewani, a resident of Westbury-on-Trym near Bristol, has always denied the accusations as the South African authorities continue to try to get him extradited to stand trial.

According to The Sun, the South African police had put together a file containing CCTV footage, mobile phone records and witness statements that they believe will provide the foundation for their case against him.

However, public relations expert Max Clifford, who is representing the Dewani family, told the Bristol Evening Post: "It's all old stuff, cobbled together and has absolutely no credibility whatsoever. Shrien is totally innocent and it's only a matter of time before this is clearly shown."

Dewani's legal team insists that he is innocent, but South African police say they are confident Dewani will eventually be extradited and tried for murder.

The full extradition hearing is scheduled for May 3-5.
