Dhaka sets a spirited tone

Columnist Devi Cherian felt Rina Dhaka didn't have anything new to show in her LIFW collection on Tuesday, but most among the stiletto-clad diamond flaunting set at the packed hall in The Grand seemed impressed.

"It was predictable, with the sheer extensively used but it's something no one can wear in daily life though it's supposed to be prêt. And the clothes didn't look affordable either," said Cherian.

Andaleeb Rana, former editor of The Mag, a Lahore fashion weekly, felt this wasn't the ideal show to begin the fashion week with. But Simar Dugal said Dhaka's show was innovative and international: "Who cares about wearability? It was great on showmanship."

Well, Dhaka sure gave LIFW a sexy start, creating a Vegas nightclub feel on the ramp with the help of choreographers Aparna and Tanya. "I was keen on having the poles, to give that ultra sexy feel that was in sync with what my clothes are," she said.

Said jewellery designer Naina Balsaver Ahmed's comment "You need a toned body to wear Dhaka's halters and sheer dresses. Not everybody has that thin waist to carry them off." We agree!
