Dhaka to accept US offer on combating terror

B'desh's Foreign Minister said US had given the offer a long time back, but modalities for the co-operation were still to be worked out.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan has said that the country was ready to accept the US offer to establish a structured co-operation in counter-terrorism activity for enhancing the country’s capability to effectively combat terrorism.

Khan said that the US had given Bangladesh the offer a long time back, but modalities for the co-operation were still to be worked out.

"The US had given us the offer much ago and we are ready to accept that, but modality of such co-operation has to be worked out," the Dawn quoted Khan as saying.

He said that US assistant secretary of state for South Asian Affairs Christina Rocca, who will arrive here on a three-day official visit on Jan 26, is expected to discuss crucial matters related to counter-terrorism with top officials of the home ministry.

"Ms Rocca who will call on Premier Khaleda Zia and also hold talks with the foreign minister and the state minister for home, Lutfozzaman Babor on the first day of her visit," he said.
