Bangladesh wants an interim agreement with India on sharing of waters of Teesta river, Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan said.
"I am expecting very positively an interim agreement on the Teesta water-sharing until the study of water flow of other common rivers is completed," Khan told Bangladesh news agency UNB on Sunday.
He said India's Water Resources Minister would visit the sites of Teesta and Tipaimukh along with his Bangladeshi counterpart soon after assembly polls in West Bengal.
The Joint River Commission (JRC) will be mandated to look into the interim arrangement after the visit, the UNB report quoted Khan as saying.
He also said both governments would take appropriate steps for the removal of trade barriers after the submission of a list of barriers by business communities from the two countries.
Commerce Ministers of both countries would also meet soon for discussions on bilateral FTA, he said.
According to Khan, New Delhi had also assured Dhaka that land ports on the Indian side would be developed for uninterrupted trading between Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan.
The report also quoted Khan as saying that a joint technical committee would study the pros and cons of a cross-border train service between Sealdah and Joydevpur before commissioning the service on a quid pro quo basis.
