After induction, Narendra Singh Dhoni said he would do everything possible to strengthen the party in his home state, Jharkhand.

SP state spokesperson Rajendra Chowdhary said Narendra expressed his willingness to join the party. Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav gave his nod, he added.

Narendra said he had faith in the policies and programmes of the SP, which is trying to expand its base in Jharkhand.

At the time of Narendra’s induction, SP’s Jharkhand state president, Miraz Khan, state in-charge Kashi Nath Yadav and state secretary Naushad, too, were present.

The SP has failed to find a foothold in Jharkhand, a 13-year-old state which has seen the formation of nine governments and three spells of President’s rule.

Akhilesh Yadav, Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Mulayam’s son, however, is hopeful of scripting a turnaround. During his tour to the Maoist-hit state in September, Akhilesh backed Jharkhand’s demand for a special status — which has been rejected by the Centre.
