But for his innumerable fans back home, he had a reassuring message - the long hair would be back before he returns to India.

The swashbuckler, gearing up for the ODI series which kicks off from Thursday, had incidentally earned a vote of confidence from the Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf who had recommended him not to trim his tresses.

"A lot of placards in the crowd have suggested that you should get a haircut. But if you take my advice, you look good in this hairstyle," Musharraf had said during a presentation ceremony earlier this year, much to the the embarrassment of the wicketkeeper-batsman.

"In this heat, it serves a practical purpose, but there is no reason for my fans to lose heart. It would be back to its normal length by the time I am back in India," he exclaimed.
