In the midst of widespread rumours, Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake issued a joint statement Thursday confirming their split.
"We have, in fact, ended our romantic relationship, and have done so mutually and as friends, with continued love and respect for one another," E! Online quoted them as saying in the statement.
Diaz, 34, and Timberlake, 25, began dating in April 2003 after meeting at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.
They say they "have done so mutually and as friends, with continued love and respect for one another."
According to them though they usually prefer not to comment on the status of their relationship, they felt the need to do so now because of recent media speculation and inaccurate stories.
However they didn't give out any reason as to why they broke up, leaving "recent speculation" to do the job.
It was widely assumed that the couple had indeed split after Diaz remained absent from the beginning of Timberlake's 36-date FutureSex/LoveShow tour. Rumours are already circulating that Timberlake is seeing actress Scarlett Johansson.
