“This is all wrong. I did not return my official security because I suspected them to be a threat to my life. It was because my 23 security personnel were under pressure to act against me and this affected them in discharging their duty,” she told reporters here.

She alleged that even when a case of attempted murder was registered against her after the October 30 attack on her motorcade at Sarora village during the by-poll in Bada Malehra constituency in Madhya Pradesh, her security personnel were under pressure to arrest her.

Asked if she was being harassed at the behest of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Bharti said, “He is not powerful enough to get such things done.... These (attack on the convoy) are taking place at the behest of some people sitting in Delhi” but did not elaborate.

Bharti, who actively campaigned for the NDA in the last assembly elections in Bihar, said the Nitish Kumar government was ‘worse’ than the previous RJD regime.

“I call it worse than the erstwhile RJD government because the former did not have the benefit of support from a nationalist party like BJP. It is worse than the RJD regime because development is not taking place under Nitish Kumar despite BJP’s presence in the coalition government,” she said.

She alleged that Kumar was ‘trapped’ by the BJP into casteist politics and accused the BJP leaders in Bihar of indulging in corrupt practices.
