The peepul’s leader Mamata Banerjee has been sitting in the bucolic locale of Singur for a while now. After making the gentle Ratan Tata react about the whole Nano car project, she remains the only peepul’s leader against a peepul’s car.

August 23, Saturday: So Ratan-ji has threatened Bengal with a pull-out? So what? Hasn’t Bengal survived without the Tatas? But wait, we also want them to pull out, don’t we? Oh no, we don’t want them to pull out but we want them to build their Nano plant elsewhere. What is wrong with the Sunderbans?

August 24, Sunday: I’ve been listening to this Medha Patkar woman. She said today: “We don’t want the Tatas.” What does she mean by ‘we’? I thought we in the Trinamool Congress were the only we!

August 25, Monday: I almost sat inside a Tata Sumo. That was close! Do you realise what would have happened if the peepul saw me in a Tata car?

August 27, Wednesday: We don’t have much time. Pujo is coming and the peepul may find us anti-peepul if we continue agitating. Hmm. Let me talk to Buddhababu.

August 28, Thursday: The gall of that man! Buddhababu spoke to me on the phone and told me that we shouldn’t drive investment away from Bengal. Who’s driving away investment from Bengal? It’s only Singur’s peepul I’m talking about.

August 29, Friday: Have the Tatas thought up changing the Nano’s design? I have a bright chap in the party who’s quite keen...
