Endowed with tremendous temperament and grit, Mongia belongs to the breed that does not miss an opportunity to grab even half chances. A prolific scoere in the domestic circuit, he has scored 13 centuries with the highest score of unbeaten 308.

He got his first break in the second ODI against Australia in March of 2001 It wasn't an series he would like to remember but like all talented players he came back

In the series against Zimbabwe at home last year, he was named the Man of the Series. He scored an unbeaten 159 against Zimbabwe which has been rated as one of the top one-day innings by Wisden for last year. He scored 263 runs in just 5 innings at an average of 66.

Besides that he is a good change bowler and has best figures of 3/31 against Zimbabwe at Mohali.

Mongia is of course waiting for his Test call and that will not be far away.
