RESENTMENT IS brewing among a large section of girl students entitled for the Kanya Vidya Dhan Yojana, because many of them could not withdrew the amount from banks as they were issued cheques at the last moment. Therefore, many of them have to face refusal by their respective banks for the transfer of amount into their account.
According to sources many beneficiaries were issued cheques few days before the last date i.e., April 30 by the officials of DioS and a few schools. Therefore, the cheque amount could not be transferred into their account due to time bar.
Sources said about hundred such cheques had been deposited back with the DIoS office for revaluation by the beneficiaries. The reason for the delay in distribution of cheques, according to sources, was poor planning of the DIoS officials.
Sources said the district secondary education authorities had a plan for distribution of amount through the CM. However, they could not get appointment for the same from the CM’s end.
Thereafter, they seek the transfer of amount in the official account of the DIoS, which was denied by the district treasury office due to existing restrictions, sources said. However, it was suggested by the treasury officials that amount could not be transferred, but cheques could be issued to them against the list of beneficiaries.
According to treasury sources, they received the first list of beneficiaries in the end of March 2006 and the second list two days after. Therefore, about 2,000 cheques were prepared by the treasury office with their validity till April 30 and also dispatched to the DIoS office in the first week of April.
