THE DISMAL performance of the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) on catch-the-copycats front has raised many an eyebrows even before the Board examinations conclude. The statistics available clearly suggest that the DIoS couldn’t effectively utilise the best available resources to deal with the problem.
Kanpur Dehat on this account fared far better than their city rivals catching maximum number of copycats in the last five years or so.
The performance was remarkable despite the fact that a number of schools had already entered into a contract with copying mafia in Kanpur Dehat. And the check and balances put in the aftermath led to massive violence all over the district.
Yet, the Kanpur Dehat teams came up with 510 copycats where as nearly five dozen flying squad could book only 37 students. The data shows 75,381 students were enrolled for high school examinations and 71,162 appeared in the examinations.
Similarly, 57,571 students submitted their forms for intermediate examinations and 56,548 appeared. Rest 1,045 students skipped the papers. The DIoS office insider say given the number of students to have appeared, the performance in catching the copycats is extremely poor. Last year, the figure had touched the 500 mark.
“It’s not that students have stopped using unfair means to clear the Board exams. But the way, the DIoS has tried to check copying and got results in turn clearly put entire process under a scanner,” said a source.

{{/usCountry}}In fact, the sources add, the copying was rampant in most of the private colleges from where forms had been dispatched at the eleventh hour. Such colleges brazenly served the students who paid any amount to get a genuine board marksheet.
In addition, no proper vigil was maintained on such colleges where the visits of flying squads were negligible. On the other, the Kanpur Dehat tally swelled like never before primarily because of effective use of flying squads at some notorious colleges.
