As a step towards enhancing overall development of children with disabilities like mental retardation, cerebral palsy and visual impairment, IGNOU in collaboration with Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) has launched awareness cum training packages in disability in these areas.
According to an official release, these packages have been developed for parents and family members of children with such disabilities in order to generate knowledge and skills among the parents regarding how they could foster development of the child in daily course of time. The packages available in Hindi, English and Tamil aim at promoting the development of disabled children in order to promote their integration and inclusion in the community.
Any reputed non-governmental, governmental organisation or institution working in the field of disability could apply for these packages to be the implementing organizations with respect to one or more of these awareness cum training packages.
The disability packages are based on a pattern including print material based learning and face-to-face contact sessions. The Public Information Unit of IGNOU at Delhi would provide detailed information and application forms to NGOs and organisations that wish to enroll family members of children with disabilities.
