The Centre has prepared guidelines to benefit disabled students seeking admission to the post-graduate medical courses. In an affidavit submitted before the Supreme Court, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that it proposes to give five per cent relaxation for the disabled candidates.
Similar to the relaxation clause prescribed for the students belonging to the Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes, the ministry plans to relax marks to the extent of five per cent for the disabilities falling in the unreserved category.
“The minimum percentage of marks for eligibility for admission to PG medical course shall be 50 per cent for the general category candidates and 40 per cent for candidates belonging to SCs, STs and OBCs. Currently there is no relaxation given for persons with disabilities. The Government is of the view that a relaxation of five per cent (45%) must be extended to the disabled,” read the government affidavit.
