Perhaps wary of triggering off another dispute the 10-member council did not take up reinstatement of deputation officials, one of the items on the agenda during the last week’s meet which had to be called off following a near-fight between members.

The MiC, however, did take up the assault on an IMC employee by right-wing activists with Mayor Dr Uma Shashi threatening to call off the anti-stray campaign if harassment of civic staffers did not cease.

According to IMC sources a total of 19,182 forms were received for payment of national old-age and social security pension schemes following the physical verification ordered after large-scale irregularities came to light during former Mayor Kailash Vijayvargiya’s tenure. Of these, 16, 296 have been verified and sent to the zonal offices.

A further 64 applications received from people who were receiving pensions earlier who had missed the original physical verification drive were also found to be genuine during subsequent examinations and these, too, were added to the list making a grand total of 11, 777 beneficiaries.
