Discoms told to launch drive to curb power theft

The power department has directed Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) officials to launch a special drive to recover arrears from defaulters, replace defective meters and check power theft so as to bring down the rate of aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses.

The power department has directed Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) officials to launch a special drive to recover arrears from defaulters, replace defective meters and check power theft so as to bring down the rate of aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses.

Ajit M Sharan, additional chief secretary, power department, asked officials to chalk out a strategy to recover pending amount from connected and disconnected defaulting consumers.

Sharan said targets of recovery of defaulting amount have already been given to the officials and asked to recover the arrears by fixing priority on the basis of amount of arrears.

He said that every effort should be made to recover the defaulting amount from the disconnected consumers also.

Sharan was addressing a meeting of DHBVN officials in Hisar on Wednesday. He stressed that consumers’ complaints should be attended promptly.

He directed the officials to keep complaint registers in the complaint centres besides setting up a call centre to deal with complaints.

He said power theft is a major reason for frequent power cuts and it also causes revenue loss to the department.
