THERE IS a sharp increase in the number of people suffering from different diseases in the district. The number of people reporting at the outpatient department of the District Hospital alone has exceeded one thousand mark.
Among the most common diseases are viral fever, malaria and water-borne diseases, including typhoid, jaundice and DVD (diarrhoea, vomiting and dysentery). People suffering from high fever, accompanied by pain, fear it is chikungunya.
CMHO Dr A L Maravi allayed these fears. “Without pathological investigations this disease cannot be diagnosed with certainty, but facilities for this type of blood test are not available in the State”, said Maravi. However, he hastened to add that no case of chikungunya had been reported from any part of the district.
Pressed for exact diagnosis, some doctors are of the view that blood samples of suspected cases should regularly be air-dashed to places like Mumbai and Delhi where these facilities exist. This may help to dispel the suspicion regarding chikungunya, he said.
