Does our country really need to make a woman president to prove that it is working towards women’s empowerment?

Does our country really need to make a woman president to prove that it is working towards women’s empowerment? The president’s post may be largely ceremonial, but is a very responsible responsible one. Therefore, a person of high calibre and achievement should hold this office. Women in India are holding their own with their counterparts in many countries. Be it holding the office of chief minister, being a top manager, a respected police officer, an outstanding sportsperson or fashion icon, Indian women are second to none. Making Pratibha Patil president could be a disservice to women if she proves to be a puppet.
