Addressing a press conference today, convener of the BGPMUS Abdul Jabbar said that the BMHRC Trust has miserably failed to provide medical relief to gas victims for which it was set up. There is no justification in its continuing as a separate entity, he added.

He also said that there is lot of duplication in relief and rehabilitation work that could be prevented if a single autonomous body is created.

Jabbar also mentioned that the matter of closure of BMHRC and the irresponsible behaviour of the Trust members would be raised as part of the medical PIL of the Sangathan being heard by the Supreme Court.

During the next hearing by the apex court on January 10, the litigants would demand that a time-bound enquiry be conducted into the entire BMHRC fiasco and punish the responsible persons. He said while the gas victims are dying and suffering due to closure of the BMHRC,

Nor he made any alternative arrangements for the patients. Also the Supreme Court on whose directive the multi-specialty hospital was set up, was never informed about the issue, he added.

Jabbar also condemned the statement by Gas Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Babulal Gaur in the State Assembly on Friday that the State Government has no role in the BMHRC strike as the hospital was set up under the SC directive.

It is also highly irresponsible of the minister to say that the State Government was not informed about the deaths due to closure of the BMHRC. “ Health is a state subject and any deaths in the State is responsibility of the government,’’ Jabbar stressed.
