SHAHAR QAZI Abdul Latif Khan has urged the State Government to dissolve the Masajid Committee, remove its secretary Syed Waseemuddin and keep the Darul Qaza-o-Ifta affairs separated from the committee.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, the Shahar Qazi also urged to appoint non-political persons. The presence of Waseemuddin on the committee would disturb the peace in the State capital as Muslims are angry with him for mistreating the Ulema and running religious bodies as his own fiefdom, he alleged.
Though Waseemuddin had resigned from the committee, the Government has not yet accepted his resignation. “We will not tolerate any interference in religious matters,” said Abdul Latif Khan. Mufti-e-Shahar Syed Mohammad Fazil and other Ulema were present at the press conference.
“Waseemuddin often pressurised us to issue fatwa as per his whims, which was unacceptable to Ulema,” said the Shahar Qazi.
He also said if the secretary was not removed the peace in the capital might be vitiated.
The allegation of financial irregularities and purchase of a luxury car from the funds of the panel were also levelled against Waseemuddin at the press conference. A letter has been written to Chief Minister and Minister for Minorities’ Welfare Rustam Singh among others for keeping political appointees off the religious bodies.

STATE BJP office-secretary Tapan Bhowmick on Saturday said his party had recommended to the State Government to soon reconstitute the Masajid committee and the Waqf Board.
Talking to journalists at the State BJP office, Bhomick said Masajid Committee had almost completed its tenure. The party had also recommended to reconstitute Mutwalli committee. Bhowmick also said about 80 per cent local units of the party had seen election through consensus during the party’s ongoing organisational election process.
