The district administration in Kanpur has sent a detailed report regarding Union minister Sriprakash Jaiswal's controversial comments on the possibility of imposition of President's rule in Uttar Pradesh to the chief election officer (CEO) of the state.
The CEO has been requested to forward the report to the Election Commission in New Delhi, district magistrate Hari Om said.
The EC had directed the district administration to give a detailed report and a CD of the speech in which the Union Coal minister reportedly said President's rule would be established in the state if Congress failed to get a majority in the UP Assembly elections.
"While the report was sent on Thursday, the CD of the speech could not be sent as the district administration was busy with polls," the DM said, adding it would be sent on Friday.
Jaiswal, who came under fire from rival parties for his comments, later retracted his statement, claiming it was "twisted" by reporters.

{{/usCountry}}He claimed that his statement was a response to a question by some scribes, asking him about the constitutional provisions in case no party is able to form the government.
"I told them what is mentioned in the Constitution. That is, in such a case President's rule is imposed," he said.
