Diva is the second Indian restaurant – Mumbai's Indigo was the first – to bag the New York-based Wine Spectator magazine's coveted Award for Excellence, presented every August to chef-owners of 30-35 restaurants around the world. With 185 wine labels and 42 wines by the glass, and a menu that the city's expat Italians love to recommend, Diva is the culmination of 30-year-old Ritu Dalmia's foray into the restaurant business. Having made her millions in her family's slate business, and having failed with her maiden venture called Mezza Luna at Hauz Khas Village, Dalmia studied cooking the Sicilian way from the grande dame of the family that owns the famous Regaleali wine estate. We recommend Dalmia's Zucchini and Feta Cheese Fritters or Seafood Crostini with the Montana Reserve Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand; the Lamb Chops marinated in grappa and cooked with capers in a red wine reduction, or Duck cooked in Marsala wine with Chateau D'Issan 1994, a Bordeaux grand cru, or the Tignanello 1997 from the House of Antinori (Italy), or the Sassicaia Bolgheri 1997, another Super Tuscan from Antinori. Other must-haves: Pasta with Crumbled Sausages, Ravioli and Gorgonzola Cheese in a Truffle Paste, and Mille Feuille of Grilled Vegetables in Yellow Pepper Sauce. It's difficult to have a bad meal at Diva.

Wine List: Diva has the city's best value-for-money wine list, which includes the most reasonably priced Bordeaux grand crus. Among the reds, we recommend: Remole Sangiovese from Tuscany, Italy; Ederra Crianza 1999 from Bodega Bilbinias in Rioja, Spain; Kendall Jackson Vintner's Reserve Zinfandel 1999 from California; Marchesi di Barolo Nebbiolo 1998 from Piedmont, Italy. Among the whites, go for the Marchesi di Frescobaldi Pinot Grigio from Italy; Montana Reserve Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand; Domaine Schlumberger's Le 'S' from Alsace, France; and Latour-Martillac Chardonnay 1994 from Bordeaux.
