Addressing a gathering of party workers at Tilak Hall during the formal handover of charge by former district president Abdul Mannan, Dixit time and again pointed out that his priority would be to ensure unity in the party and all Congressmen would have to put up a united front before the masses.

“ All Congressmen will have to unite in the larger interest of the party,” stated Dixit and exhorted the party workers to unite and topple the State government.

No discrimination would be made among party workers on the basis of caste, creed or religion, he added.

He also solicited the support of all sections of the party to ensure the party’s victory in the coming Vidhan Sabha and Municipal Corporation elections.

Senior party leaders had already laid down the criteria for selection of candidates and it would be followed honestly, asserted Dixit.

A known loyalist of Sriprakash Jaiswal, Dixit was all praise for him. He applauded the efforts made by Jaiswal in strengthening the party in the city.

Dixit also praised former district president of the party Abdul Mannan for the active role played by him during his nine-year tenure.

“ The rich experience of Mannan will be of immense help to me in leading the party to victory in the coming elections,” remarked Dixit.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion Sriprakash Jaiswal also insisted on unity in the party. In a clear message to the faction opposed to him, Jaiswal said “ We have to fight together in the larger interest of the party. Unity among party leaders is a must to give a positive signal to the masses”.

Abdul Mannan pledged his full support to the new DCC president.

He thanked the party workers for their cooperation during his nine-year tenure as DCC president and urged them to extend the same support to the new chief.
Later, talking to newsmen Dixit said, “ To check rising prices, all Congress-ruled states will slash taxes in their respective States.” The Samajwadi Party government would be urged to do the same to check inflation, he added.

Meanwhile, in a bid to secure a place at the manch next to Mahesh Dixit and Sriprakash Jaiswal, a section of the party workers clashed with each other.
