TUG-OF-WAR between the Kanpur Municipal Corporation employees and the senior officials over non-disbursement of salary and pension for the last three months on Thursday reached in front of the District Magistrate. Armed with their version, employees leaders under the banner of Sanyukt Karamchari Sangh and Sangarshsheel Sanyukt Karamchari Morcha claimed that despite KMC receiving approximately Rs 67 crore under the salary head, including salary for the current fiscal, from the State Finance Commission, the employees have not been given their salaries for the last three months, while pensioners have been waiting for their pension for the last 14 months.
Meanwhile, Municipal Commissioner Arvind Singh who was also present along with chief accountant PN Singh at meeting with the DM, admitted non-disbursement of salary and told DM Deepak Kumar that salary for December was being distributed.
The employees’ leaders termed it “pack of lies”. They told the DM that cheques for salary of December were signed only in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, which has not been received by the employees as yet.The cheques would be distributed on Friday as Thursday was a holiday. The employees would not be able to encash cheque before Id-Ul-Zuha falling on January 11. The employees demanded that the salary be disbursed in cash so that the Muslim employees could celebrate their festival.
After listening allegations and counter claims, the DM constituted a three-member inquiry committee to be headed by chief treasury officer. The CTO had been instructed to look into the complaints of employees and conduct an inquiry as to where the funds released under the salary head by SFC had been diverted.

However, the employees threatened to go on an indefinite strike from January 8 if their demands were not met by January 7.
Gorelal Bharti, Ramakant Misra, Mohan Singh Yadav, Baburam Baghmar and others represented the employees.
