Making the allegation, Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin said the cost of various projects for which foundation stones were laid during the earlier DMK regime had escalated as the AIADMK government which followed had not evinced interest in completing them.

The cost of the bridge across Vaigai river at Paramakudi had escalated from Rs five crore when the foundation stone was laid, to Rs 11.65 crore, Stalin said at a government function here citing an example.

The AIADMK did not care to even maintain "Samathuvapurams" (colonies where people of all castes live together) and other projects completed by the DMK government. It was the DMK which had to allocate Rs 14.5 crore to maintain buildings of Samathavuapurams that were built earlier, he said.

He said the DMK had fulfilled its budget promise of constructing 29 Samathuvapurams and assured that another 66 would come up in two phases.

Charging the AIADMK with trying to find fault with whatever good projects were taken up by the DMK government, he said the rival party had filed cases, alleging that the quality of flyovers constructed in Chennai was suspect. However, they were yet to prove anything, he said.
