Karunanidhi lashed out at reports that he had distanced himself from former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran and his elder brother and business tycoon Kalanithi Maran.

Breaking his silence on the raids, the former Tamil Nadu CM said he supported his grandnephews in their defence. In a statement, he said, “I treat my daughter Kanimozhi (who is in jail in connection with the 2G spectrum scam) and the Maran brothers equally. Reports that I did not support the Maran brothers is a part of a conspiracy by some vested interests to destroy the DMK.”

Karunanidhi said he did not want to politicise the 2G case and the CBI action.

On Monday, the DMK leadership had maintained a silence on the raids on the premises of the Maran brothers.
