This refers to the report Cong-DMK ties may hinge on PM's Spectrum Raja decision (November 11). A Raja should not have been included in the second UPA cabinet, given the allegations regarding the 2G spectrum allocation during his first stint. The CAG report has established that Raja ignored finance and law ministry recommendations and subverted procedures to favour certain telecom operators. He must not only be sacked but also prosecuted for causing such a huge loss to the nation.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's famous integrity is a useful alibi when questions of corruption and graft are raised by the Opposition. We have all noticed his silence regarding the 2G spectrum scam. If there was any time to demonstrate integrity, it is now, or is there a bigger scam on the horizon that will make him speak?

It is not merely enough to sack Ashok Chavan and Suresh Kalmadi on allegations of corruption. Influential and rich people implicated in big scams and scandals should also be immediately arrested. Only a fear psychology developed through stringent penalties will check the menace of corruption.
