A DMK youth wing functionary was hacked to death by a six member gang last night in Erode, Tamil Nadu, police said.

A DMK youth wing functionary was hacked to death by a six member gang last night in Erode, Tamil Nadu, police said. They said Sakthivel, running a Bar attached to a TASMAC shop, intervened to stop a quarrel among some persons yesterday afternoon and had them sent out.

Around 2000 hrs, six persons barged into the bar, picked up a quarrel with him and suddenly attacked him with knives and sickles. A friend, who tried to save Sakthivel, also received stab injuries.

The two were rushed to the Government Headquarters Hospital, but Sakthivel died en route, while his friend is undergoing treatment, they said.
