After trying to establish the Pakistani roots of the 10 terrorists who attacked Mumbai on November 26, the crime branch of the Mumbai police is trying to gather evidence that will establish their journey from Pakistan.
Police have collected evidence — like hair and tissues from blankets and towels on the fishing trawler Kuber — that will undergo DNA tests to help prove that the terrorists were onboard the vessel.
Police have already completed the DNA profiling of the 10 terrorists — killed and captured. These will be matched with the results of the tests from the trawler’s evidence.
The results, sources said, are likely to be obtained next week.
Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, the only terrorist to be captured, had said that his team had moved from a Pakistan trawler, Al Hussaini, to Kuber, which they had hijacked, and travelled about 553 nautical miles to reach Mumbai. The team had abandoned Kuber about 5 nautical miles from Mumbai and covered the rest of the distance on a rubber raft.
Investigators had earlier recovered a GPS from Kuber, showing travel routes and locations of the trawler at various points along the journey that started 70 nautical miles inside Pakistani waters.
