Today's celebrities lack something. Yes, besides their clothes, they also lack the style sense to become style icons. They might be flaunting the latest in fashion on their sleeves, but are failing miserably to create a genuine statement for themselves.

While yesteryears' actors and actresses like Dev Anand, Sadhana and Rajesh Khnanna were able to leave an indelible impression on Indian psyche as style gurus, modern heroes and heroines seems to be a part of a homogenous herd. Barring Shahrukh Khan and a few of his ilk, a whole generation of actors, specially the newcomers, have failed to make a mark for themselves as style icons.

Why is it so? Perhaps the answer lies in the fact that in the race for scrambling space for oneself, actors have traded class and elegance with overt exposure. Feels model and actor Jas Arora, "Small and skimpy outfits are very prevalent these days. The secret of an impressive style according to me is simple and classy. I always choose the kind of clothes in which I feel that I can carry myself very well. I don't think wearing small clothes and exposing more and more body parts bring any class into your style."

So what do these actors need to do to transform themselves into trend-setters? What would make them into respectable style icons? Model and VJ Sophie feels that elegance and confidence are the key to one's style. Says she, "Among Indian actresses I appreciate Rekha and Sushmita Sen for making their own fashion statement. Whatever they wear they seem to be very particular about their elegant and confident look. Putting on clothes, both too much and too little, never make one feel comfortable with that. Put on as much clothes as you can carry yourself very well with."

Looks like our Bollywood bombshells and heart-throbs need to learn a tip or two on fashion. The verdict is out- 'bare all' is a passé. Salman, Mallika are you listening?
