The accused, identified as Sharif Mohmed Shabbir Ahmed, is said to be an activist of the banned Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).

Police are likely to interrogate Ahmed, a resident of Sapana Sizing in Malegaon, in connection with the car that was used by the terrorists on May 9 at Aurangabad. The militants escaped in the car when they were intercepted by police.

A diary and a mobile phone have also been seized from his possession, police said.

The car was found abandoned in Sayne-Shivar at Malegaon on Friday and had police arrested four persons - Riyaj Ahmed Mohmed Ramjan (36), Mushtaq Ahmed Mohmed Issac (25), Javid Ahmed Abdul Maji (28) and Afjal Khan Nabi Khan (26) - in this connection.
