He is participating in the Dream Run to create awareness about the importance of cadaver donation. “I have seen many patients suffer because they have not got a cadaver kidney. Often, their relatives have to undergo a major surgery and donate their own kidney. This will stop if families of brain-dead patients start donating his/her organs,” he said.

Dr Shingare has been jogging everyday for three months for the marathon.

Around 25 others including Dr Vatsala Trivedi, secretary of the Zonal Transplant Co-ordination Committee will also run at the event.

Sita Gupta, who has been waiting for more than two years for a cadaver kidney, lauded the effort. “If awareness increases, then donation will go up and people like me will get a new life.”
