The dose which even VIPs had to take with a smile. On Sunday afternoon, doctors taught this lesson to politicians who had come to pressurize medicos at KGMU’s Trauma Centre. But, they neither broke and norm nor the code of decency to do that.

The matter related to the injured members of the convoy of a State minister Rajaram Pandey who were brought here after they met an accident in Rae Bareily on Saturday. They were admitted and treatment started instantly but the patients’ attendants were not satisfied. They came out bursting on Sunday.
The unsatisfactory mood of the attendants brought the minister and a few more politicians of the State to the Trauma Centre to enquire about the complaints.

Finding no senior consultants on duty, top varsity authorities were given calls on their cellphones. Calls went to the in-charge of the Trauma Centre Dr AA Mahdi—who was then on CPMT counselling duty— and the vice chancellor Prof SK Agrawal. The demand was for a senior consultant for the admitted patients.
Prof Agrawal was cool enough to answer the call. “I cannot do much about the availability of doctors for I am only waiting for a new vice chancellor to take over. I have to give charge tomorrow and thus I am busy with paper work.”
By that time a large crowd of supporters had gathered at the Trauma Centre and the guards deployed at gates found themselves helpless to stop unwarranted entrants.

They explained to the politicians about the system of treatment.
They narrated case sheets individually of all the injury cases from the convoy and told the minister that each injured is under proper treatment and being continuously observed for any problem.

The residents even stated that some of the admitted patients have minor injuries and can even be discharged after medication. It was only then that the politicians could get a clear idea about the system of treatment at KGMU and fully convinced with the line of treatment they left the place saying “we are satisfied with the treatment.”

“We have senior consultants on call for any emergency while resident doctors look after the treatment of the admitted ones,” said Dr Mahdi.
