They warned that they would go on an indefinite hunger strike from Monday in case their demands were not met.

Resident doctors alleged that Prof Gajendra Singh was hand-in-glove with Dr NK Singh, therefore, both should be removed from their respective posts with immediate effect.

Resident doctors of the Department of General Medicine also held discussions with doctors of other departments in order to elicit their support.

The strike by resident doctors at the Department of General Medicine entered its fifth day here on Sunday. Doctors abstained from routine work and did not entertain patients in the general ward of Sir Sunderlal Hospital at Banaras Hindu University.

However, emergency services were unaffected. Resident doctors alleged that postgraduate students registered under Dr NK Singh were being forced by him to satisfy his financial and domestic needs.

“We are not going to overlook such mass irregularities at the prestigious Sir Sunderlal Hospital and will continue our agitation till the corrupt doctors are not punished,” resident doctors said.

These doctors had met the BHU vice-chancellor at the Central Office on Saturday and informed him about the “mass irregularities” prevailing at IMS and Sir Sunderlal Hospital. Around 80 resident doctors also staged a demonstration outside the IMS main building to register their protest.

As a result of the mounting pressure, BHU V-C Prof Panjab Singh along with rector Prof S Lele held a meeting with IMS director Prof Gajendra Singh, Sir Sunderlal Hospital medical superintendent Prof Churamani Gopal and other senior officials on Saturday.
