They claimed that 150 patients were treated in two camps organised outside Sion and Nair hospitals.

Besides consultation for routine ailments, the resident doctors also distributed medicines and referred critical cases for admissions to municipal hospitals.

“The monsoon is the busiest time and a lot of patients were refused treatment because of the strike. Our fight is with the government. We don’t want patients to suffer because of the strike,” said Dr Samadhan Mitkari, president, Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors, Nair hospital.

At Sion hospital’s OPD camp in a rented hall, about 75 patients were treated and two were referred for admission, said Dr Vashishth Maniar.

But patients were definitely happy.

“In this OPD there were doctors from all specialities. I didn’t need to run from one room to another with my file. I like this better,” said Nawab Baig (73), a hypertension patient.
