There’s little space you’re getting, and you ought to make the most of it. Stop whining about that tiny apartment and look at the big style statement you can make instead —
dual-purpose furniture makes for smart investment and lifestyle accesorisation, and it’s not a new thing.

American colonists, who always found it necessary to conserve space, used it all throughout civilisation. Today, of course, it’s far more fashionable and fine. “If you're constantly battling with space issues, dual-purpose pieces can work wonders for you.

Be it the sofa cum bed, the hallway bench with hidden storage or the writing table with drop leaf sides that allows it to become a sofa table console, such furniture is always a great buy," says interior designer Gautam Gupta.

Options galore
Each room demands its own two-in-one piece. “If you have a small bedroom, go for a sofa cum bed or a Murphy bed (fold away bed that is hinged vertically against the wall). Opt for a work table that opens up as a dining table or a dining table integrated with a Murphy bed in case of not-so-spacious dining area,” suggests Angeline Loiseau of Zolijns Designs.

Storage is another advantage.
“For the living room, go for a trunk that can be used like a console, or a sofa that comes with side and back shelves to stock books. “A bar cabinet that can be used to keep decorative items, or a kids’ room with a bed with a sliding table and drawers attached is also a good idea,” says interior designer Bobby Aggarwal.
