Dilip Simeon in No quick fixes, please (April 29) rightly states that the people of Chhattisgarh should denounce the impudence of the government that called the Salwa Judum a ‘Gandhian campaign’. This state-backed ‘Gandhian militia’ has many fake encounters and rapes to its credit. It’s sad that the government is yet to realise that Naxalism is a socio-economic problem, not a security issue.

State support to groups like Salwa Judum is tantamount to outsourcing security, something that the government is supposed to guarantee its citizens. The government should take the blame for what is happening in Chhattisgarh today. No matter how difficult it is to control Naxalism, protecting life and property is the prime responsibility of the State.

Congress hypocrisy

Veteran CPI(M) leader Jyoti Basu has rightly pointed out that Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s knowledge on matters related to Nandigram is half-baked. It is time that her basic information about the country, which she virtually rules, is questioned by the people.
