DoT penalises operators

Department of telecommunications (DoT) issued notices for penalty of Rs 351 crore on various operators for not meeting emission radiation norms from telecom towers.

Department of telecommunications (DoT) issued notices for penalty of Rs 351 crore on various operators for not meeting emission radiation norms from telecom towers.

Representatives of Aircel, Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, Vodafone India, Reliance Communications (RCOM), Sistema Shyam Teleservices Ltd (SSTL), and Tata Teleservices recently met the Union minister for communications and IT Kapil Sibal for reduction in the penalty.

DoT officials pointed out that many sites in Mumbai were not meeting the radiation norms.
