The district epidemic team led by CMO Dr Shantimal Singhavi rushed to the affected village on Saturday midnight and provided treatment to the patients.

The residents were still panicky and wanted the team to stay at the village.

A marriage ceremony was held at the residence of Ramchandra Yadav of Sarvadih, about 15 kilometres away from Phulpur, on June 7 in which several milk preparations were made including 'Rasgulla'.

After the marriage procession left, Yadav's family members consumed Rasgulla and other leftover sweets. The sweets were also distributed to the neighbours.

Several hours later the family members started complaining of dizziness, vomiting and diarrhoea.

Yadav's neighbour Balvant Singh's wife Sita Devi (40) and daughter Rajju Devi (4) also fell sick after complaining of vomiting and diarrhoea. The other neighbours who had also consumed the sweets also started reporting symptoms of food poisoning. All the patients were rushed to Badhshahpur for treatment.

"The medicine stock was also provided to Gram Pradhan Sitaram Yadav by the CMO. However, the situation was under control with most of the food poisoning patients improving after the initial treatment," said Dr VK Mishra.

Dr Mishra said the team returned back on Sunday morning. About dozen cases were found with food poisoning symptoms.

"In order to avoid such happening the residents should avoid consuming stale food and leftovers in the marriage parties.

They should also keep all the numbers of CMO office to immediately inform it in case of diarrhoea and food poisoning," he added.
