AGNI-I, THE surface-to-surface ballistic missile with a range of 700-km was successfully test-fired on Friday from Wheelers Island off the Orissa coast. However, a day before the missile was fired, there was high drama in the seas near Wheelers Island involving two vessels, which allegedly intruded into Indian territorial waters. While the state forest department seized one of the vessels, information on the second one is still awaited. Despite the anxious moments, the launch took place without any hiccups. Agni-I is a short-range variant of the Agni series of missiles. According to DRDO sources, the launch took place from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) launch complex-4 at 10.38 a.m.
