Kopi Luwak is actually made from two words; Kopi means coffee and Luwak refers to Asian Palm Civet also known as a Toddy Cat. This cat (not literally) is famous for eating only the ripest and sweetest red coffee berries, indigenous to south-east Asia, but he cant digest them.

Kopi Luwak is the rarest beverage in the world. The most pronounced characteristic of this coffee is a marked reduction in bitterness. One cup of this coffee can cost you as much as Rs 3000 and the lowest limit of the bargain (if any) would also cease somewhere around Rs 1500. However, this coffee is made just like any other coffee, except for one small difference. They are not directly plucked from their mother plants instead the berries have to go through a kind of, ahem... recycling system before they become available to humans, as beans, for further process. The coffee beans, from only the ripest and sweetest berries, are then washed and given a light roast so as to capture the flavor.
