THE NORTH Central Railway (NCR) has undertaken the work to install Train Protection and Warning System (TPWS) in the cabins of the drivers.

While elaborating on the entire system, Chief Pubic Relation Officer, NCR, BP Pandey said that the warning system which is to be installed in the cabins of the drivers will be audio-visual. It will give an indication of the position of the signal to the drivers. Whether the signal is red, green or yellow will be displayed on the screen. Besides displaying the position of the signals on the screen, the system will also produce a beep sound, he said.
"This is being done to keep the speed of the train within limits", said, the CPRO.
Presently, the work has been sanctioned for New Delhi-Agra section, he said, adding that the contract in this regard, has been given to a foreign company and the work will be completed by December 2006.
As trains with 150km/hr are already running in New Delhi-Agra section, this section has been first picked up for the work. Later, we will introduce the system on other routes also where trains with high speed are running, said CPRO. Not only this, the NCR is also making efforts to improve safety at manned level crossings, by introducing Train Actuated Warning Device.
"The purpose of the system is to warn the road users when the train is approaching the crossing", said CPRO
It will be an audio-visual system, which will be installed on both the sides of the crossing gate and will give the exact position of the approaching train, he added. Work in this regard has already been sanctioned for Jhansi division.
