Reports said that fuel supply to over a dozen districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh remained suspended for over four hours as the irate mob of tanker drivers staged a dharna in front of Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation depots.

The protesting drivers were demanding compensation package of Rs 10 lakh in favour of the deceased tanker driver alleged to have been beaten to death by a petrol pump owner at Ramnagar.

“Yes, fuel supply remained disrupted for some time today,” a senior officer of Indian Oil Corporation told Hindustan Times. “The protesting family members of the deceased tanker driver and other drivers squatted in front of our depot demanding compensation,” he added.

“A case has been registered against the owner of the petrol pump of Bharat Petroleum and investigations have begun,” Station Officer Ramnagar Police station Sumarjeet Singh said. The post-mortem report did not show that the death was caused due to beating, he added.

They were protesting death of Hori Lal of Harhuva area, a tanker driver. They were demanding the arrest of the petrol pump owner also.
